Make this Icon! Turn:

Free Image Hosting at ImageShack.us TO Free Image Hosting at ImageShack.us

2. Open your image and resize it. Drag it into your 100 x 100 image.

3. Duplicate (Ctrl + J) your base and set to screen.
I got:
Free Image Hosting at ImageShack.us

4. Duplicate the screen layer twice.

6. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation
MASTER
Hue
0
Saturation
44
Lightness

7. This bit is optional, but i like the effect on most icons. i like to mess around with the settings depending on the base.

Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Colour
CYAN
Cyan
100
Magenta
21
Yellow
-19
Black
6

(usually i mess around with the magenta levels, but when i did that for this icon it looked too pink [don't be afraid to experiment!])
I got:
Free Image Hosting at ImageShack.us

8. Make a new layer and fill with #D7D6D5. Set to colour Burn. Duplicate it once.
I got:
Free Image Hosting at ImageShack.us

9. And finally, for no other reason than i felt like it, I removed the Pope's shoulder from the background. I used the clone tool to do this.

And you are done!
Finished Product:

I love how this turns out. I have Paint Shop Pro, so I can't do the "selective color" feature, but I'll have to try this out anyway. :) Thanks!

The selective colour doesnt really do a whole lot so I am sure that whatever you make will turn out great! I would love to see!

Hi, thanks a lot for the tutorial, it looks really good, but I was having some trouble and was wondering if you could help me out?
Well, I got up to step 5, and this is what I got:

But when I do the saturation part, it comes out like this:

Here's my settings if that'll help you at all...

Thanks, I really appreciate all the help I can get! :)

that is very tricky. But the pic did the same thing for me in both Photoshop and PSP. Umm, all i can suggest is that you set the Saturation to much lower until it looks acceptable.

I am sorry if that isnt much of a help!

thank you very much, i'll try that! :)
