Here is my newest tut-
turn this:

into this:

1 . Open a new 100 x 100 image

2. Open your picture, resize it and place at the top of your 100 x 100 image.
Like this :

3. Duplicate image (ctrl + j) and move it to the bottom of the 100 x 100 image. Desaturate it (ctrl + shift +u)

4. With the desaturated layer selected go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal.

5. Duplicate the desaturated layer and set to soft light. Underneath the soft light layer, duplicate it again and set to screen. Do this a number of times until you are satisfied with the look of the pic.
I got:

6. Now, go back down to the coloured image and duplicate that and set to soft light. Underneath the soft light layer, duplicate it again and set to screen. Do this again until you are satisfied with the look.
I got:

7. Take this brush
and place it between your images. Set to screen.
I got:

8. Make a new layer and fill with #0B1040. Set to exclusion.
I got:

9. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Colour Balance.
Set to :
Cyan/Red
14
Magenta/Green
6
Yellow/Blue
27

I got:

10. Now add some text. I used font dear Joe four. size 10.

Play around with brushes and stuff to come up with different looks!

Final Result:

My result:

I'm pretty happy with it, even if the brush didn't come out quite how I expected. :)

Oh, and Mem'd for later use :)
Kate[info]pureskies on June 12th, 2006 03:26 am (UTC)
That turned out great! And what do you mean the brush didn't come out like you expected? Like the colour?
azaelia_took[info]azaelia_took on June 12th, 2006 06:29 pm (UTC)
It didn't go over the icon in quite the way I expected it to at first--I think it may have been something with how I defined the brush, or the centering of the image I picked in the first place--it was hard not to cut off their heads when placing the brush.

The color is fine--I deliberately put it on top of the exclusion layer. Just working with the particular color scheme of my icon, it turned out a little too monochromatic if I left it under the exclusion layer.

I'm going to try another one, this time with something zoomed in a little closer, and with more color variety. That may make the difference.
Kate[info]pureskies on June 13th, 2006 06:16 am (UTC)
Sorry- yeah I get it now. Yeah that could make the difference definitely. Sometimes it just doesnt look right with certain caps and sizes and stuff.

I know that you posted this awhile ago (sort of), but I was looking through the archives in icon_tutorial and had to try it.
