NEW TUTORIAL
Make the following icon;
Turn:

1. Open a new 100 x 100 image
2. Open your image and resize it. Drag it into your 100 x 100 image.
I got:

3. Duplicate your base and set to screen. Duplicate the screen layer twice. Set the top screen layer to an opacity of 50%.

4. Now from the original picture, select a rectangle of the background with the selection tool. Then right-click, go to feather and set to 5. Then copy and paste the selection onto the image. (Sorry if that isn't explained well!)
I got:

5. Then duplicate the top layer and set to screen. Duplicate the screen layer once and set to an opacity of 20%.
I got:

6. Now make a new layer and fill with black. Set to Saturation.
I got:

7. Now go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves
Set to:
RGB -
Point one:
I: 92
O: 70
Point two:
I: 184
O: 174
I got:

8. Now I added a swirl brush by
latexandleather, which i deleted half of to only cover the selection on the side.
Brush:

I got:

9. Now I added some text ("scofield" in font Gilliam 2 colour #C10202)
And you are done!
